BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Jen Mesch Dance Conspiracy is a militia of dancers, choreographers and a variety of artists, scientists and citizens.
Born October 13, 1970
Jennifer Mesch is a contemporary dance choreographer and improvisor originally from Empire, Michigan. She began as a violinist and self-taught dancer until she began studying dance in 1988 under modern dancer Therese Povolo. She went on to receive a BA in Dance and a BS in Botany from Western Michigan University in 1997. She studied Hawkins technique with Wellspring/Cori Terry and Dancers in Kalamazoo and at the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio in New York City. While in New York, she spent many hours studying archival dance footage at the New York Public Library. Mesch has choreographed over 50 works for dance performances and experimental theater and she teaches dance composition, technique and theory in a variety of environments and is a freelance dance critic. She has danced with Dawn Cargiulo Berman (Momix), Penny Hutchinson (Mark Morris Dance Group), Jack Magai (Troy Chainsaw Ensemble), Linda Mannheim (Martha Graham Dance Company), Jennifer Monson (Birdbrain Dance) and Kimberly Young (extra-sensory pedestrians). Most of her recent performances are collaborations with music improvisors, including Newton Armstrong, Betsey Biggs, Seth Cluett, Kurt Gottschalk, Stephan Moore, Scott Smallwood and Nate Wooley.
She currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and works as a pediatric cardiac sonographer.
