BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Jen Mesch Dance Conspiracy is a militia of dancers, choreographers and a variety of artists, scientists and citizens.
Born October 13, 1970
Jennifer Mesch is a contemporary dance choreographer and performer originally from Empire, Michigan. She began as a violinist and self-taught dancer until she began studying dance in 1988 under modern dancer Therese Povolo. She went on to receive a BA in Dance and a BS in Botany from Western Michigan University in 1997. She studied Hawkins technique with Wellspring/Cori Terry and Dancers from 1992-1997. She then went on to study at the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio in New York City. While in New York, she spent many hours studying archival dance footage at the New York Public Library. Mesch has choreographed over 50 works for dance performances and experimental theater and she teaches dance composition, technique and theory in a variety of environments and is a freelance dance critic. She currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. These days she is less interested in practiced unison and formulaic choreoghraphy, and most of her recent performances have consisted of collaborations with live musicians and video artists dedicated to the art and skill of improvisation in performance.
